Woman dead, man injured in ‘savage’ pit bull attack

The couple were attacked by two pit bulls

A woman was mauled to death and her husband seriously injured after they were 'savagely attacked' by two pit bulls on Christmas Eve.
Lorraine Brock Saylor and her husband Johnny Saylor were found by police who were called to the scene near Arjay, Kentucky, on Sunday morning.

Two officers found that the couple "had been savagely attacked" by two pit bulls, Bell County Sheriff's department said in a statement.
Mr Saylor was able to shoot the dogs, killing one, investigators said.
Police were alerted by a 911 caller who reported his brother and sister-in-law were attacked by two of their neighbour’s dogs, WLEX-TV reported.
Mrs Saylor, aged 66, was declared dead at the scene. Her husband was taken to hospital with serious injuries, WKYT reported.
Police said in a statement: "Tragically the woman died from her injuries in the attack.
"The husband suffered wounds as well, but was able to shoot both dogs killing one while the other ran off near Country Lane.
"The deputies determined that the dogs did not belong to the couple."
Residents were warned to be on lookout for the injured brown dog, which should not be approached.
"Under no circumstances are you to engage this dangerous animal," the department added.

Last week, police found two pitbulls "eating" their 22-year-old owner after she was savagely attacked while taking them for a walk.
